Yesterday was yet another hot and sun filled day, I was very glad to have not too much to do. After a quick breakfast it was over to the old house for a few photos with Ben and then down to Rutland. Ben had an appointment with the Petco Grooming staff and I was not about to miss having him made into a sweet smelling version of his current self.
Killington is a very small town in terms of permanent population. When I lived there it was thought that full time residents numbered around 1000. The number of part timers could swell it by 10,000 on big ski weekends, most coming from Boston and a significant but lower number from New York. The nearest town for almost any sort of shopping not related to going downhill on snow is Rutland, some 7 miles and 2000’ lower down the valley. And that is where Ben and I headed yesterday for his ‘spa day’.
Ben is like most dogs and is not terribly keen about bathing and brushing and combing but puts up with it very well. The part he adores is being rubbed down with towels - he will take any amount of that - it is a big part of our swimming exercises each day at home. Either every groomer we have ever encountered lies outrageously or Ben is actually very well behaved when I ‘treat’ him to a spa session. I like to believe the latter!
This time it was Casey and her team that had the dubious honour of turning a rather grubby dog into something that was more socially acceptable in polite company. I dropped Ben at 10am and, after explaining his various medical problems, was told he would be ready in three hours. Clearly Casey and team enjoyed his company and all turned up to bid him farewell when I returned to release him. He had yet another report card claiming he was ‘a sweet boy’ and I was very kindly supplied with some photos of him during the session. You can judge for yourself as to whether he was really well behaved!! A big shout out and Thank You to Casey and team at Petco Grooming salon in Rutland, you were great!
