An unplanned emergency this afternoon. John and Ginny had taken all of us over to a small beach at the end of a cove on the property. Ben and Buddy took to the water which was fresh and clear and cool chasing sticks. The two of them are quite competitive together and so Ben was delighted to find that Buddy will not let his paws leave the bottom - every stick that went too far out was his!!
While we all stood there enjoying the antics Divot, Ginny’s puggle took off into the wild green yonder. I was assured that Divot did this all the time and when he did not reappear as we set back for the house it was not something to worry about. The tune changed a bit as the afternoon wore on and Divot’s dinner hour approached, still no sign of him. John and I went drive about and canvassed the neighbours - still no Divot. I went out again by myself, still no sign. Suddenly a passing boat shouted the news that they had seen the little runaway on the beach we had originally visited. Divot was enormously pleased with himself as the rescue party approached - he had found a rawhide bone almost as big as himself and was giving it all hell, oblivious to the panic he had caused back at base.
We are now recovering from the stress of the search, John by watching golf, Ginny by reading and me by writing this. Ben and Buddy couldn’t care less and are fast asleep on the deck. I cannot see DIVOT……..
