RAIN AGAIN

Today was a day I had anticipated for a very long while. It was the day to drive to Mount Washington, the most prominent mountain in North America east of the Mississippi, 6,288 feet of New Hampshire granite. The mountain is famous for its wildly changing weather and at its summit hosts a climate research team year round. Today the weather was not changing at all, it rained and rained and, yes, rained some more. I passed one 'scenic overlook' sign after another on the winding twisting roads leading to the big boy - and the view was exactly the same from all of them - wet cloud in varying shades of grey. So no photos today I'm afraid. A drive to the summit had been scheduled but given the lack of visibility and the 9C ambient at the base I decided to head for the hotel and call it a day.

Ben and I were booked in at the famous Bretton Woods Hotel situated close to the base of Mt Washington. It is one of the grand old hotels that creaks and sits uneasily in this modern age. It is an experience and the age of the accommodations shows - at least in my room it did!! I shall say no more. Tomorrow we head to Bar Harbor and a very luxe experience. Watch this space.

After all the activity at the lake this weekend I gave Ben a quiet day and I think he appreciated that. He is not a fan of rain and was not too impressed at walking in the cold wet conditions. He did however pose long enough for me to get the photo below. Sorry it is sideways on - a technical hitch.
