Yesterday was a banner day for Ben and by extension, for me. On Tuesday we had departed Bretton Woods in gloom and rain and headed for Bar Harbor, ME. Somewhere else I had never been. The journey was cross country on minor roads and took far longer than predicted. While Ben is an excellent passenger there is a limit to how quickly one can go over broken and sometimes wildly undulating pavement.
I had booked us in to one of the nicer establishments in town, right on the waterfront and it turned out to be a good choice. We arrived in sunshine and 27C and the town was jumping, very busy indeed with all manner of tourists. We checked in and settled into the suite which was absolutely huge, on the ground floor with three sets of walk out doors and ocean views. Our very own grassy area allowed Ben to stretch and roll in the late afternoon sun to his heart’s content, perfect.
We went together to a lobster restaurant and sat on their deck under the shade of an umbrella enjoying the view and the food. It is a very dog friendly part of the country and it seems dogs are extremely well catered for by many establishments. This particular one had large paper water bowls for all its doggie customers.
Wednesday dawned warm and sunny and Ben and I were up and about before most of the world. He took advantage of a roll on ‘his’ little lawn and I headed for the large and now empty hot tub. I’m hopeless at ‘selfies’ and so asked Leif, one of the maintenance staff out cleaning up to take a couple of shots. He was most obliging and before long we were deep in conversation about our respective dogs. He of course wanted to meet the star of my dog and pony show so Ben was produced for a poolside photo shoot!
