HIP OPERATION

OPERATION

I know he cares and he worries a lot,

But try as I might I can’t tell him I’ve got

A pain in me so deep and so bad

It must be the worst that I’ve ever had.

But he stays wide awake through the very long night

Knowing I am in pain and something’s not right

So off to the vet for poking and prods

Those folk in white coats think they are Gods

But Boss is in tears as we pull away

I don’t understand why he feels this way

They looked at my pictures, sounded quite glum

And Boss muttered darkly about the end of my fun.

I’ve not seen him like this without a good cause

So give him a cuddle with both of my paws

I don’t understand what runs through his head

But he hasn't cheered up when we go to bed

Sleep eludes him again as he tries to see

A treatment he hopes will be best for me

As the sun rises he has found what he seeks,

A titanium hip in a couple of weeks

Into the van we load ourselves up

Off to Ohio for Boss and this Pup

The veterinary school is so far away

We’re driving for hours, most of the day

But Boss doesn’t care how far we go

“You’re getting the best” he lets me know

When we arrive I can see it is true,

Right there beside us, a horse clinic too!

I can’t tell you much of what happened those days

Because of the drugs it was a bit of a haze

Suffice it to say when I went out to pee

Instead of four legs, I needed just three
